What is Coaching? Coaching is a professional partnership between a qualified coach and an individual or team that supports the achievement of extraordinary results, based on goals set by the individual or team. Through the process of coaching, individuals focus on the skills and actions needed to successfully produce their personally relevant results. A coach works with a client to help them become clear about their goals, fears, life purpose and relationships, and supports them in taking ACTION in these areas. Coaching is about helping the client clarify their goals and purpose, to take them from where they are now to where they want to go, and achieve it faster. Coaching Briefly Defined This is the International Coach Federation definition of coaching: “Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.” “Coaching honors the client as the expert in his/her life and work and believes that every client is creative, resourceful, and whole.” A coaching session is generally one hour in length and can take place over the phone or in person. What Coaching is NOT? Coaching is NOT therapy. Coaching differs from therapy which focuses on emotions and the past experiences; or consulting which offers advice giving and identifies generally a specific problem to solve, or mentoring where knowledge is shared by an individual with more experience and wisdom. Coaching is grounded in the present and through goal setting, launches the client into action for the future. How does Coaching work? The coach is a partner who will help you clarify your goals and implement an action plan to achieve your vision of how you want your life to look – both personally and professionally. Coaching is essentially a dialog between coach and client, in a productive and results-oriented framework. Additionally, a coach: · Helps you discover, clarify, and achieve goals · Helps you solve problems and make the most of opportunities. · Provides structure, support, accountability, inspiration and provides guidance. · Is an active listener, someone who reframes information and offers a shift in perspective. · Supports you in taking action on the things you desire
